JuLY 13, 2008 - JONI VARIS dominates ALL 30 laps
in 1st place
Someone needs to write it down, this is one race
that will be remembered for years to come. In
the end Pole man Joni Varis was no match for anyone.
Finishing every lap in the race in 1st place,
holding off Elmer Holtkamp who was chasing him
the whole way home. Both of these drivers are
fighting for the drivers championship, as it seems
now that it may be the top two, as Honda Dominic
Renting encountered a disappointing 6th place
finish, after his car spun off a curb into the
wall, forcing him to pit, at the same time as
his teammate. Luckily for them, they both escaped
without waiting for one another in the pits.
Very Mixed results for Team Honda today, who currently
still holds the teams constructors standings by
a large 15 points margin. Honda driver two Jeroen
De Meer, finishes as Phil calls it, his best career
race.
This kid has grown stronger in 08 and I believe
he will be a strong competitor for 09. Jeroen
De Meer showed excellent strength today as he
battled hard for his podium finish passing Simon
Bishop in the last lap of the race, after trying
to past him for some odd 4 laps, right on his
tail, leaving spectators hearts pounding for breath.
De Meer has been getting better and better, within
each race, almost never declining. Could it be,
that his teammate 07 OF1L champion Dominic Renting
has taught him a few tricks? How much longer before
Jeroen De Meer pulls his first race victory, could
be near.
Simo Holm finishes in 4th place as he too passed
Simon Bishop in the last lap of the race, keeping
draft with De Meer, which made all the 3 car last
lap action much more exciting.
Simon Bishop finishes in a respectable 5th place
finish. Both Simon and Simo served no qualy penalties
and started at the back of the grid and still
finished rather well. Both drivers choose to go
on 1 stoppers today, which proved to be the winning
strategy.
Rami Suominen finishes in a respectable 7th giving
super aguri another 2 points (7 points today).
As Struggling Thomas Orre scores the last point
for the italian team.
Jose Caparroso the last driver to finish the race
9th, finally finishes a race, only disappointed
that he did not score a point.
From 10th - 15th, 4 Suspensions damages, 1 Engine
blew up, and 1 Retired driver, marking this 3rd
year of OF1L Great Britain Race, an exciting memorable
one.
"I have decided our next race is going to
be on August 3rd 2008. Take this
time to enjoy the summer holidays folks. I will
be messaging all of you 1 week before the race
to remind you that we are back. "
Thanks
FIA President
Phil Sousa
